Common Puppy Behaviors

(What’s Normal — and What Matters)

Raising a puppy can feel overwhelming, especially when behaviors change from week to week. Most of what new puppy parents worry about is completely normal — it just isn’t talked about clearly enough.

Here are straightforward answers to the questions puppy owners ask most.

Why is my puppy worse at night?

This is one of the most common puppy questions — and it’s usually not your fault.

Evening behavior issues are often caused by:

  • Accumulated exhaustion

  • Too much stimulation during the day

  • Inconsistent nap schedules

By nighttime, a puppy’s nervous system is overloaded. Instead of winding down, they may become:

  • Bitey

  • Zoomy

  • Barky

  • Unresponsive to cues

This is a sign your puppy needs more structure and rest, not more activity.
